Dark Side of the Con / Coronavirus update

We are continuing to closely monitor updates from the CDC and local news. At this time we have no plans to postpone our event. We do take our guest’s safety seriously and together with the Sheraton Parsippany we are taking the steps to keep everyone safe and healthy:
– The Sheraton Parsippany will have double the staff to clean all public area door knobs / handles, bathrooms, countertops and any other areas that attendees’ hands come in contact with.
– Hand Sanitizer stations will be placed throughout the public areas
– Additional tissues will be located near areas where doors need to be opened
– Food servers, lobby attendants, and ticketing / registration staff will have gloves on at all times while serving food/beverage, making transactions, cleaning etc.
– Sheraton staff will use a no handshake policy and attempt to keep a safe distance between all other staff and guests
– 1,000 personal Dark Side of the Con branded hand-sanitizers will be distributed for free to attendees when they check-in.

We do ask all our guests to take extra precautions as well such as:
– Wash your hands regularly.
– Stay home if you are sick.
– Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue.
– Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.

While we do take the situation seriously, we are still looking forward to having another great event! We just had 2 events in NYC over this weekend and they both were very successful, including a sold out show. Ticket sales for Dark Side of the Con are very strong so it’s looking like it’s going to be our best convention yet. Let’s stay healthy and have a great time!

Band Announcement: Bella Morte

Bella Morte
[Virginia / Metropolis Records]

Bella Morte sings songs of love and loss, hope and despair. Combining driving electronics, graveyard ballads, emotive storytelling, and powerful guitar riffs, Bella Morte have developed a distinctive style embraced by legions of fans around the world.

In the late 1990s Bella Morte played an essential role in the revival of Gothic Rock in the US. The band self-released two albums and toured tirelessly carrying their sound across the US, Canada, Germany, Austria, and Britain. As a result of their growing popularity, the band signed with Cleopatra records who would re-release the now-classic Where Shadows Lie. The band would not remain with Cleopatra long, as strong sales led them to Metropolis Records, where they have released 9 full length albums and 2 EPs. In 2013 Metropolis Records released The Best Of Bella Morte (1996-2012) celebrating the first 17 years of their dark, diverse catalogue of sounds.

The members of Bella Morte are known for their love of all things horror. Classically-trained singer Andy Deane has written and published 4 horror novels (The Sticks – 2009), (The Third House – 2010), (All the Darkness in the World – 2011), (No Turning Back – 2012). Andy composed the score for the 2014 film “Plan 9” (Darkstone Entertainment), a remake of the Ed Wood classic Plan 9 From Outer Space. Bella Morte also contributed 3 songs that appear in the film. In 2010 Bella Morte teamed up with Troma Entertainment to shoot a video for their song In The Dirt. Footage for the video was shot by Lloyd Kaufman at DragonCon and Connooga earlier that year. The band has continued to work with Troma and recently composed the theme song for Return To Nuke Em High. Bella Morte has also had the pleasure of working with co-stars from The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 for their 2015 video of Exorcisms.
In August of 2017 Bella Morte released their latest work Year Of The Ghost, which dives back into the band’s early post-punk, cold wave and gothic sounds. As the band continues to tour the world and write new material, they remain eternally thankful to be doing what they love: singing songs about the dead and winning the hearts of the living along the way.

Band Announcement: Grendel

[United Kingdom / Infacted / Metropolis Records]

Officially formed in 2000 by JD Tucker, Grendel was quickly picked up by the legendary German label NoiTekk (a subdivision of Black Rain Records), upon hearing their first promo CD.  In 2005 Grendel released their now classic “Soilbleed” EP, of which the title track is to this day an unmissable club hit worldwide. This release marked a true milestone in the band’s career and saw them touring larger stages throughout Europe, reaching a far greater audience, and topping alternative & sales charts. The EP was re-released in 2006 as “Soilbleed Redux” and featured additional material, such as a cover of Leaether Strip’s “Don’t Tame Your Soul”, “One.Eight.Zero” and a remix by New York artists Life Cried.
In 2007, Grendel released the album “Harsh Generation”. This was to become one of the most important & influential albums for the contemporary industrial & Electronic Body Music movement, marking new territory and a more matured sound & style. It remained on top positions of alternative charts, such as the DAC, GEWC, DUC for maximum periods of time. To this day, this is also an unmissable part of any industrial/ebm DJs arsenal.
In 2009, the “Chemicals + Circuitry” EP was written & recorded. This turned out to be a slight diversion from the band’s familiar sound, but received much praise and again reached top positions in the charts (DAC, GEWC, DUC, etc.), with the title track quickly becoming a favourite amongst DJ’s and listens alike.
In 2012, Grendel released the “Timewave : Zero” album. This album is both a return to their signature sound and taking on various influences from contemporary EDM styles, such as Trance, Complex Electro and House. All of this together has created the most mature Grendel sound to date and has gained highly positive feedback from both fans and media, scoring top positions in the DAC, GEWC, mail order sales charts and more. In the years that followed, Grendel toured extensively on the success of this album in both Europe & North America.
October 2017 marked the release of the eagerly awaited album, “Age Of The Disposable Body”. Not only did this album offer a rich palet of sounds & styles, but also a huge step forward vocally and lyrically, marking a new chapter in Grendel’s evolution. The album received critical acclaim & praise from both fans and press alike and reached top 5 positions in both sales & DJ charts. To promote the album, Grendel embarked on an extensive 34 date tour of North America and played major festivals across Europe.
During the time after the North American tour, JD continued working on his music, exploring new musical avenues, and spent time reflecting on recent events in his life, which resulted in the 2019 release of the “Ascending The Abyss” album. Musically it showed Grendel taking a more mature approach to their music and expanding on the new direction set by “Age Of The Disposable Body”.

Band Announcement: Suicide Commando

suicide commando

Suicide Commando
[Belgium / Out Of Line / Metropolis Records]

Going strong for 30 years, Suicide Commando have not only been pioneers of the harder Electro genre, but continue being innovators up to this very day.

Formed in summer 1986 by Johan van Roy, the band made a name for itself through a series of self-released tapes from the late Eighties to the early Nineties. When the group released its first full-length CD “Critical Stage” in 1994, it soon would evolve into one of the most popular and important acts of the scene.

Johan van Roy explores the dark side of humanity with lashing beats, haunting atmospheric electronics and an addictively psychotic and relentlessly aggressive vocal style. With eternal club hits, such as the seminal “See You In Hell” or “Hellraiser” and an impressive roster of successful album releases, from the classics “Mindstrip”, “Axis Of Evil”, “Bind, Torture, Kill” and “Implements Of Hell” to the apocalyptic 2013-masterpiece “When Evil Speaks”, Suicide Commando continue to be genre-defining while always evolving their very own trademark sound of synthetically-induced mayhem.

They are a regular guest at the biggest scene-related festivals around the world and are renowned for their energetic stage performance. With an ever-growing rabid fan base at their back, Suicide Commando are one of the most popular live acts of the goth-industrial scene.

Band Announcement: Das Ich

Das Ich
[Germany / Danse Macabre Records]

As at the end of 1980’s Bruno Kramm and Stefan Ackermann, were sending their first religion-criticising demotapes they could not even imagine that this specific release would be soon defining a whole new music genre, “Neue Deutsche Todeskunst” (“new german death art”). Songs like “Gottes Tod” and “Des Satans neue Kleider”, that are still in this new century carrying a very special magic in them, became well known hymns of the black scene in the new freshly united Germany.
Since their early works “Satanische Verse” and the album “Die Propheten”, Das Ich has been combining drama with music, expressionism with classics and electronics with gothic with the intensity so far unexperienced in the music scene. They were crossing boundaries and inspiring numerous bands and forms of expression with their new art.
On their extended worldwide tours in Europe, USA, South-America, Asia, Israel and Russia, Das Ich was not only strongly promoting the culture of a new and expressive but at the same time still well beware of it’s horrifying past Germany. They also helped their mother tongue, German, to finally emancipate from Schlager, folk music and Krautrock. Between their albums “Staub”, “Egodram”, “Lava”, “Antichrist” and “Cabaret”, Stefan Ackermann and Bruno Kramm have always allowed long periods for the inspiration being able to develop their own musical language that has always been responsing to every epoch and period of time.
With their boundary-crossing, controversial and intense live shows Das Ich has developed a strong and very unique reputation that is still, over 25 years after the release of “Gottes Tod”, not comparable with any other band. Together with the metal band Atrocity, they broke through the almost impenetrable scene boundaries between metal and gothic scenes by wrapping the poet Gottfried Benn with their “Morgue” vocalization into a disturbing sound picture, which in its time-critical presentation found the premiere in the prestigious Theater of Zürich.
Still until today “everblacks” like “Kain und Abel”, “Von der Armut” or the technoide VNV Nation remix version of “Destillat” are constantly accompanying dance-floors at the worldwide Gothic parties.
After very serious illness of the singer Stefan Ackermann and the political excursion of the composer Bruno Kramm, Das Ich is now retuning stronger than ever with a new line-up and is working on a soon to be released new album.
